Ladies and Gentlemen, my witness Mayon Volcano

I was inspired to write a blog by the "Ako Mismo" TV ad, it says but I'm not sure who "Ako mismo, ay hindi mgbblog na nkakasama sa aking bansa" so here I am blogging about one of the natural wonders of nature and Albay's pride Mayon Volcano.

While others got excited to see the Mayon and asked me to go to Bicol to experience its beauty, I grew up neglecting its beauty, sure when it was the first time you'll get amazed and take loads of picture with it with you "kuhang pang turista" wherein the background is more focus than you in the picture. As I've said I grew up not knowing how lucky I am to see the Mayon and experience its beauty.
I spent my summers in Bicol together with my cousins we live in our Lola's house in a small town in Daraga, Albay. First it was just 5 days vacation just in time for Santacruzan where we participate every year, then one week or two weeks, and even the whole summer in my Lola's house. Once we stepped out of our compund you will see the perfect cone which is sometimes hiding in the clouds. But if you're lucky and you go out on a sunny day, Mayon Volcano is smiling at you with the clear blue sky as her background. Most of my childhood memories, Mayon was there to witness it, the dance contest that my cousin Iya and I won for 3rd place, dancing in the "Parabailehan" (Dance area), my being Reyna Elena which I need to pray in 7 houses, drinking fresh goat milk, singing in the tree house or crossing the rice fields to get to our other cousins on the other village.
Since I get to see the Mayon every year, I lost all excitement of seeing her, smiled at the picture of my friend who pose with the famous Cagsawa church's bell tower with the Mayon, because God knows how many pictures I have with Mayon, with different people, or rock or angle.
But then time came when I can't have vacations anymore, you know, you grew up and worked and can't file a leave or not fun enough because your cousins are not there, so I wasn't able to visit Mayon or Bicol for nearly 10 years. And fortunately, if not for my Lola's 80th birthday I won't be able to see her again.
And that's where i realized, Damn I'm lucky, I was able to see Mayon and appreciate its beauty everyday if I was to live there, nevermind thinking what we will do if it erupts, but seeing her with her perfect cone, white smoke coming out of its small crater. I exhaled and said, "She's still a beauty." So I told nyself I need a picture of Mayon because the last time picture I have is, I can't even remember it. So i took a picture after a 40 mins trek up of Ligñon Hills park. I was sweaty and tired but the picturesque is all worth it. I also tried the zip line in Ligñon hills, so the next time yopu plan a trip you can include Bicol as one of the destination and not just experience the beauty of Mayon but as well as the tasty Pili nuts and the cheap Abaca bags and slippers.

The Reading Challenge

At the start of the year there were two reading challenges I committed myself to The Goodreads Reading Challenge where you will decide how many books you can read for the year. The other one I got from my cousin but upon searching in Google it's a Popsugar Reading Challenge.  I must have underestimated my annual calendar because I challenged my self to red 50 books in Goodreads. I thought "50 books? Oh that's nothing, I have all the time in the world." And guess what? It's mid of November and here's my reading challenge. Apparently I didn't plan on being too busy during mid year but I'm not complaining I just didn't expect it to be like that. Still, I'm happy to I have read 25 books so far. And these are mostly YA books. What's with YA anyway? Am I old to be reading it? But that's another blog entry I suppose. I am happy to discover new authors that I will sure follow (Sarah Haas, Cassandra Rose Clarke) and the likes. With these 2...

The Year that was

By Now I think everyone had enough of the New Year, New Me post don't worry I will try my hardest not to do that here. Instead I would like to recap a little on the year that was.  2016, whew, insert hand swiping my forehead here. Let's see, how many time did you sing Closer by Chainsmokers? What was your favorite movie? I like Civil War but Suicide Squad gave me a fun memory. What was your biggest project completed? First and foremost my theme song for 2016 is "Thank you for the broken heart" by J. Rice. If you're reading my previous posts, well, thank you, but it doesn't take a genius to know that I had a heartbreak but I have to thank it because it opened a lot of doors for me. It wasn't a bitter break-up but just as others, it was sad. It happened at the start of the year which I think was good because it gave me a chance to revisit my goal for the year and what I really wanted.  So drum roll please... On door no. 1, I had a chance to reconnect...

Home is where the Heart is

You can take the Pinoy out of the Philippines but, you can't take the Philippines out of the Pinoy. In the case, food... - Nicanor David Jr. from "Kwentong Tambay", 2006 Ah this one is true, I've heard of it. I came from a family who works abroad, halos lahat sila, actually konti na nga lang kami dito sa Pilipinas e. Anyway, back sa topic. My sister lives in UK been there for quite some time and she went here in the Philippines after 5 years and the first thing she asked me to do is Dial 8-7000 (singing: Jollibee Delivery). My Dad is in USA for, well, a very long time now and once in a awhile if there is a family friend visiting Philippines we will ask them to bring my dad several frozen tapa from the famous Maty's in Prañaque which is in a microwavable container. Filipinos can endure the work and long hours abroad but they can't really resist not to look for Filipino food. I remembered my cousin who's in Singapore she was telling us how she craved for ric...
